microTOOL User Conference - A Customer Oriented Experience Exchange

More than fulfilled has been all me expectations by the 21th microTOOL User Conference in Berlin May 11/12th. With more than hundred users from companies in Germany and Austria the conference was a successful event especially because of its balanced program of microTOOL presentations about further product developments and presentations from users with a main focus on the in-Step project management software.

The user’s experience were made in various domains (public service, automotive industry, logistics, paper mill, insurance, telecommunications industry etc.) and common to all experiences users reported was the high flexibility of in-Step when integrating it in existing processes and IT-systems. Interesting was a user experience working with V-Model XT and PRINCE2 on the interface to the customer, but using SCRUM by the development team internal.

Remarkable was also the openness how the management from microTOOL beside the outlook on further product development also discussed with users very open and with crystal clear answers about problems; that openness created much confidence to this enterprise.

The organization of the conference was excellent and the timing of the presentations (20 presentations) offered enough time for highly interesting networking talks with other product users.

Experience Sharing and Discussions with Students of the University for Applied Science FH Wr. Neustadt

An opportunity to share my experiences of working and living seven years in China now with students of software engineering could be used in a lesson during the Open Lecture 2011 at the University for Applied Science FH Wiener Neustadt on May 4th 2011.

Starting with a questionnaire to the students about their ideas and views about China the intention was to discuss some wrong assumptions and preconceptions about China, often created by media reports, and to discuss the question about the role for Austria as high-tech country in the competition with China. Where my position to this is, that there is no reason for fear or even panic for young engineers if they focus on their strength and accept also that Chinese engineers meanwhile are top qualified too and both should see each other on the same “eye-level”. Such respectful collaboration of West and East can create WIN-WIN situations for both and there is I bright future for Austrian software engineers too.

Another positive impact to the discussions was that some of the participants where just preparing to go to China for a while.

Further Details and pictures you can see in the facebook area of FH Wiener Neustadt.
